Reading and socialization
• Promotion of peaceful coexistence: A culture of peace fosters mutual respect, tolerance, understanding and peaceful conflict resolution. When society is mobilized towards this culture, it creates an environment conducive to peaceful coexistence among individuals and groups. This contributes to reducing violence, conflicts and social tensions.
• Respect for human rights: A culture of peace implies respect for and protection of the human rights of all people. When society is mobilized toward this culture, it promotes equality, justice and dignity for all, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
• Violence and conflict prevention: A culture of peace focuses on preventing violence and conflict before they occur. When society mobilizes toward this culture, it promotes strategies and practices that address the underlying causes of violence, such as poverty, inequality, exclusion and lack of opportunity. This involves investing in education, empowerment programs, promoting social justice and building relationships based on dialogue and cooperation.
• Building sustainable societies: A culture of peace is intrinsically linked to sustainable development and the well-being of present and future generations.
Objectives
• Generate awareness: To discuss about the transition towards citizenships and generate awareness about the importance of building societies based on values of peace, justice and mutual respect.
• Share experiences and good practices: Share experiences from different contexts and places where progress has been made in building citizenships of peace. This allows learning from the successes and obstacles faced, as well as identifying effective and replicable strategies in other environments.
• Promote citizen participation: The forum offers an appropriate space to promote citizen participation in the construction of a citizenship of peace. By involving different social actors, such as activists, community leaders, academics and government representatives, it fosters inclusive dialogue and strengthens the voice and power of citizens in peace-related decision-making.
• Promote concrete actions: The peace forum will serve as a platform for the formulation of concrete actions and commitments to build citizenship for peace. Through collaborative discussions, agendas, programs and projects that promote peace at the local, national and international levels can be established. This helps to transform ideas into tangible actions and to mobilize resources and support to implement them.
